Since 2018, Figgers Foundation has supported people in need. Its mission is to help families facing hardship by providing the resources, support, and opportunities they need to overcome their challenges. The Foundation's work reaches people of all cultures and beliefs.
Every so often, the Foundation meets someone whose story sharpens its purpose. These are people who have spent their lives helping others through difficult circumstances, reminding us why this work matters.
Tessa is one of those people.
A few days after receiving a tablet at the Figgers Foundation’s distribution event at Brown’s Temple Ministry in Pompano Beach, Florida, on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, Tessa reached out to the Foundation. Her message was more than a thank-you. It showed the impact a simple act of support can have and why helping people rebuild their lives remains at the heart of the Foundation’s work.
A Registered Nurse Who Needed Care Herself
Tessa spent her career as a registered nurse caring for sick patients. A long battle with cancer left her disabled, and since then, providing for her family has been a daily struggle.
She was among the countless parents who received free tablets for their children at the Figgers Foundation tablet distribution at Brown's Temple Ministry on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026.
The tablets distributed that day put a range of digital resources within reach of local students, from online lessons and research materials to the tools they need to complete assignments outside the classroom.
For parents and other adults, the devices opened a different set of possibilities, including accessing essential online services, communicating with family, and handling tasks that increasingly require a connected device.
Soon after the event, Tessa sent a message to Figgers Foundation Director Santay Thompson. She thanked the Foundation and wrote about how much the help meant during one of the hardest stretches of her life.
“My name is Tessa. I’m a registered nurse who became disabled after a very difficult battle with cancer. Because of everything our family has been through, I haven’t been in a position to buy tablets for my children.
Today, they were blessed with FREE tablets. I’m so grateful for programs that truly make a difference in the lives of families. Something that may seem small to someone else means so much to us.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. God always makes a way.”
What One Less Expense Means for a Family
Buying tablets for her children was not something Tessa could afford. Between medical limitations and a reduced ability to work, every dollar already had a job.
For Tessa’s family, these tablets removed one immediate expense and gave her children better access to school resources. For a parent managing her health and her household at the same time, one fewer bill to worry about matters a lot.
Closing the Digital Divide, One Family at a Time
Unfortunately, Tessa’s situation is not unusual. Many families in South Florida and across the country are quietly stretched thin by medical costs, lost income, and the price of the technology students now need for school.
This is exactly the work Figgers Foundation was built for. Whether it is putting tablets in the hands of students, supporting health equity initiatives, or providing services to people with nowhere else to turn, the Foundation focuses on practical help that lands where it is needed.
Its impact shows up in small, concrete ways. Whether it's a child who can finish an assignment at home, or a parent who can relax a little after a hard month, families like Tessa's see that someone noticed their struggle and showed up.
